This has probably been seen around before, but I only just got these from PinkHearts on the John-and-Teyla Yahoo list.

Do not clicky if you no wanty spoilers!

From here:

The upcoming fifth season of SCI FI Channel's original series Stargate Atlantis will see the addition of a new regular cast member, the promotion of another and the departure of yet another, producers told SCI FI Wire on May 16 during a visit to the show's Vancouver, Canada, production offices.

One of the biggest changes is the addition of Robert Picardo as a regular cast member in the role of Richard Woolsey, who takes over as the new commander of the Atlantis expedition. Picardo replaces Amanda Tapping (Col. Samantha Carter), who had to bow out of the new season as a regular cast member to devote time to her forthcoming SCI FI series Sanctuary.

Jewel Staite (Dr. Jennifer Keller), meanwhile, will become a regular cast member, a promotion from her status as a recurring cast member. Staite described Keller as growing more comfortable with her place in Atlantis this season. "She steps up to the plate a little bit more," Staite said in an interview. "She's becoming more courageous."

Former regular cast member and fan favorite Paul McGillion, who appeared briefly last season, will return once more to play Dr. Carson Beckett--or at least his clone. (Spoilers ahead!) Beckett was left in stasis at the end of season four, but will reappear for five episodes in the new season.

One cast member who won't be returning at all is Tori Higginson (Dr. Elizabeth Weir). Producers had planned to bring back Weir in several episodes, but Higginson declined to return. It's not clear at this point how losing Higginson will affect the ongoing replicator storyline.

Regular cast member Jason Momoa (Ronon Dex), meanwhile, hinted that he's starting to think about life after Stargate. "Wouldn't say I'm sick of [Ronon] yet," Momoa said, "but one more [season] and I'll probably be good. I'm 28 now. I'll be 30. ... It's just time to move on, and I'll want to play something else."

Six episodes of Stargate: Atlantis' upcoming fifth season have already been produced, and filming is underway on the remainder. The fifth season kicks off this summer.

That would be interesting - if Jason decides to cut and run before the series ends. Ronon back out on his own, running against the Wraith? Or, if they look at defeating the Wraith and moving on to the Replicator enemy for Atlantis, then him choosing to rest and settle down after the defeat of the Wraith?

I guess we'd never know unless they commissioned first a sixth, and then a seventh season. Still, a serial show like Stargate is good, solid money - even if it's not particularly thrilling storylines or character development for Jason's character.

And some spoilers about Teyla, Ronon, and the 100th Episode from here:

The upcoming fifth season of SCI FI Channel's original series Stargate Atlantis will focus heavily on the Wraith--with a side trip to Las Vegas to commemorate the show's 100th episode, producers told SCI FI Wire during a visit to the show's sets in Vancouver, Canada, on May 16. (Spoilers ahead!)

Other key developments: Teyla (Rachel Luttrell) will have her baby in the fifth season. The character became pregnant last season to accomodate Luttrell's real-life pregnancy. Luttrell has given birth, so her character can follow suit. The baby is delivered on camera by Dr. McKay (David Hewlitt). (Inside word is it's a boy!)

Teyla also sees her abilities get out of hand in an episode in which she touches the mind of a Wraith Queen, which activates her Wraith DNA. According to Luttrell, Teyla "embodies" the Wraith Queen--the actress will appear in full Wraith makeup--and becomes "the leader of an alliance of Wraith."

Also look for the return of the Wraith-worshipping Satedan Tyre (Mark Dacascos) in an episode in which he captures Ronon (Jason Momoa) and attempts to sacrifice him to the Wraith. Ronon is given so much Wraith enzyme in the episode that he gives in completely to his dark side and apparently does some serious damage to Sheppard (Joe Flanigan).

Momoa said that he got so deep into his character's rage in the episode that he actually broke a gurney he was strapped to. Momoa called the episode the most fun he's ever had as an actor. (Contrary to previous speculation, however, Momoa does not lose his trademark dreadlocks in the episode.)

Even Dr. Jennifer Keller (Jewel Staite) and Richard Woolsey (Robert Picardo) have close encounters with Wraiths in the coming season, the actors confirmed. Staite said that her character will be trapped with a Wraith in one episode. Picardo cited a moment when Woolsey is about to be killed by a Wraith as an example of his character's emerging courage.

Not everything is about the Wraith though. Flanigan said it's his understanding that filming for the show's upcoming 100th episode will take place in Las Vegas. Though Flanigan claimed to have no more details than that, he surmised that this would probably mean the episode will have to do with the replicators.

Six episodes of Stargate Atlantis' new season are complete and filming of new episodes continues. The fifth season kicks off in July.

I'm not sure whether to dread the 100th episode of SGA. To be honest, the 100th episode of SG1 was okay and amusing but not particularly impressive. I wasn't much of a fan of Marty in the first place. The 200th episode had sheer bodaciousness going for it - I just LOL'd my way through.

There's not really anything more about Teyla this season so far - ultimately, I hope they spread the honours and accolades for character development and action among the team, although, sheer practicality and the knowledge of how utterly limited the writers are forces me to admit that it's probably just John and Rodney again. Some people just have no imagination.

However, at least Ronon has another episode to shine in. Is it wrong of me to want Teyla to be the one riding out to rescue him? I'd prefer it if she had to rescue John or Rodney outright, but that option is limited by the writers' general unwillingness to actually give female characters things to do other than exclaiming, giving John or Rodney the go-ahead, or needing rescue.

I'd actually been staying spoiler-free until this point. I think I shall endeavour to remain as spoiler-free as is humanly possible in future. It's just easier to go in with as little expectation as possible when it comes to Atlantis.

Ooh, interesting...

I'm glad Ronon is getting some more action, and super-happy that Teyla's baby will be Atlantis-based and thus 'on-screen' (from Rachel's interview last week). I'd heard the bit about Rodney delivering the baby but didn't realise that it was actually confirmed - can't wait to see that!

though I should probably catch up with S4 first...

And yes, I totally get the "less you expect, less you'll be disappointed" approach to SGA

I'm not really interested in this season, but, Ronon is given so much Wraith enzyme in the episode that he gives in completely to his dark side and apparently does some serious damage to Sheppard (Joe Flanigan).

*snerk* Oh please, Sheppard? 'seriously damaged' .... John Sheppard as it has been pointed out time and time again is immune to everything *eyeroll* whilst everyone is not and whilst he can save himself his team cannot.

Heh. I read that last line as: "It's unreasonable that he never ever, not once, needed shaving." I was like "WTF? Did you not see 'Epiphany'?!?"

Speaking of 'Epiphany,' there is some really hot Teyla/John/post-ep shaving fic to be had there. I'm just saying. ;)

Can I just say Rodney delivering Teyla's baby makes me happy? Considering how little screen time the two of them get together as teammates, I'll take it as a bit of a win.

The rest of it? I'll wait and see.

Whoa, I'm taken a little by surprise by Jason wanting to bow out after another season, although I guess I shouldn't be too much given the little bit of acting he gets to do on Stargate.

Not personally looking foward to the 100th episode either - both 100th and 200th on SG-1 were some of the eps I found the least watchable (although that could be because I can't stand Martin the alien).

Lots of changes to look forward to, looks like.

Shep whumpage and Mark Dacascos in the same ep? Sweet! I was so excited to see The Chairman the first time and I'm thrilled they're bringing him back. "Today's secret ingredient is...BETRAYAL!"

I'm looking forward to the 100th ep. I liked both 100 and 200 on SG1 a lot, because I'm a sucker for that kind of meta silliness.

I'm also looking forward to the renewed emphasis on the Wraith as the Big Bad. I liked them way more than the Replicators and I felt that SGA really doesn't need SG1's sloppy seconds.

If you don't want some very mild spoiler-y stuff, don't read the rest of this post.

According to Joe Mallozzi's blog, they're focusing a lot more on inter-team relationships this year, of which I fully approve, although it seems the first half of the season is a bit McKay and Ronon (!! Yay!) heavy, with some whole team action thrown in. He's implied that this means the back half of the season is going to be Shep and Teyla (!!!) heavy, for which I'm so excited in spite of myself.

Believe me, I share your misgivings. And yet, I can't help but get a little glimmer of hope. I have no idea why. Maybe I'm a secret masochist, unconsciously setting myself up for more pain.

Or maybe it's the hope that they'll provide enough on screen to inspire fic writers to branch out in certain directions and come up with some stuff that's actually good!

Also:
The other thing is that the actor's strike is planned for the '2nd half of the season'.

Wait wait wait. There's an actor's strike in the works now?!? Okay, someone just fucking kill me. Everyone I know lives in other states. My arms are basically crippled. I can barely hold a book on really bad days and I can't really use a computer most of the time (it's been a good couple of days lately, obviously). About the only thing I can do anymore is watch TV! And now there's another strike coming?

I'm going to go cry myself to sleep.

I'm not sure how I feel about Teyla keeping her baby. I hope they handle it well but who am I kidding? They probably won't.

Another season and the spoilers are here! I really started following eps and waiting for them at the beginning of S3. It was kinda dissappointing.

They fooled me in the beginning of S4... wait, let's not be too ungrateful! They thrilled and beguiled me with classic episodes such Missing and BAMSR! This time, I'm keeping my fingers crossed they don't fuck everything up and get themselves cancelled. No matter what, I want my S6! Cause, they might get new writers in the mean time...

I have only one request: that they don't name the baby Tagan! it would be a nice compliment to the side of fandom who's been showering us with babyfic since even before there was a baby, but personally, I don't need those fic to become canon. Do something unexpected for a change!Original!
