Just got home from the con.

This is not a full report: I didn't attend any of the panels this time, just got my photos and autos and came home. Just not a good weekend for me to be out.

However, I did hold a few brief conversations with actors at the con.

The con was great. Some of the organisation could have gone smoother, but things seemed to be working from my end of the pointy stick!

The actors were charming and really friendly, delightful to hang with, and lovely to the fans. The Q&A was good, I loved the cocktail party and the breakfast (platinum tix) and think I'm going to be a platinum tix person so long as I have the money to do so.

Gate to the Sanctuary Convention: the guest Q&As )

Okay, for my part, I gave Amanda the present I'd been charged to give her, talked the topics I wanted to talk about, bought way too much stuff at the auction, but had a really good time.

And, um, I...think I might be able to call myself a Sanctuary fan now. One of the things I spent too much on was a framed S1 Sanctuary promo poster. Too. Much.

*coughs* Whether any fanfic comes of it is another matter entirely.

I have the most awesome picture of an Avatar: The Last Airbender quartet! Really really beautiful detailed costuming.

Yesterday's Wonder Woman is Snow White today. There are all manner of generic steampunk people around, and I saw a group of Sailor Scouts wandering around. Lara Croft is...Lara Croft again today, and there are a lot of game characters wandering around. Lots of 151st legion (stormies and Tie pilots, and a girl in a reblion flight suit, jedi knights and , assorted game military, and Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth Swann are back.

OMG. THERE'S A WEEPING ANGEL! (being photographed with a Cyberman)

The Grinch is having his photo taken by the Sailor Scouts, and someone has put together a Dalek. I think it's got a wheelchair base, but the rest of the body is cardboard. He was just overtaken by the Airbender quartet. Jessie the cowgirl is adorable, and is accompanied by Supergirl and Batgirl (looks likie a blonde Babs Gordon).

So far, I've bought two Firefly t-shirts (non-black) and have taken the card for a bunch of other t-shirts in the hope of finding something non-black. I've got plenty of black in my wardrobe, I'd like a few more non-blacks. The Jason Palmer studio art is exquisite, so I got a brown hoodie of Jayne, and a grey t-shirt of Serenity's crew.

I'm debating whether or not to buy the Jason Palmer limited edition Firefly portfolio. It's lovely and affordable (for me), but I don't need it that much!

Also, there are awful lot of fans around here who seem to think it's a crime to smile or look pleasant. Rule #1 when in a group of people who don't know you: try to look like someone they'd like to know.

Right. So. dinner with the Stargate guests for Armageddon.

food was delish, guests were delightful, night was faboo, I'd do it again! )

There was a second conversation with Torri, but that's going to have to wait for later. I've got to go help out at a booth for a bit.

I'm manning a booth, so I don't get to the talks, and I'm not much of a one for the talks anyway, so I can't tell you the goss.

I can tell you my interaction with the actors was very minor. I got one thing signed by Michael, and one thing signed by Torri, and I think I might get Michael to sign Daniel the lemming. Either on his tag or across his butt. Or possibly if I can find a piece of plastic that I can then loop-attach through his tag. Anyway, I've had Daniel the lemming for the better part of eight years and never got him signed. So, tomorrow is the day!

Michael was done with his signatures very fast. Ben was gone a little while later. But Torri's line was HUGE and stayed huge. Mostly because she talked to everyone for 2-3 minutes, and would happily get carried away. She'll be at the dinner, though, so I got my stuff signed and went.

Anyway, room, rest, wash, then dinner.

For me, the most enjoyable part of any convention is watching the costuming. And not just the costuming but the clothing: what people wear (or don't wear), the styles and colours chosen.

The guests this year are Michael Shanks, Ben Browder, Torri Higginson, Lexa Doig, Claudia Christian...and a bunch of other people. Including about 3 Dr. Who guests.

As a result, there's a lot of generic stargate folk wandering about, a lot of Gate-related t-shirts, heaps of trenchcoats and ties, and I just saw a gas-masked couple walk by. (DW: The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, I imagine.)

And then there's the usual conclave of catgirls, superheroes, anime characters, t-shirt wearing geeks, and goths.

...an EMT has just walked past with a stretcher and gear. That's worrying. It's all fun and games until...um...the EMTs are called in. I hope it's nothing serious!

Although perhaps not as much as the guy who walked by in flowing white and gold a little while ago.

I haven't seen the female stormie this year, though...

[livejournal.com profile] morjana has a big links post over at her journal.

possibly of interest? )

Does anyone have ComicCon vids? There were some up on YouTube, but they were gone by the time I got over there.

Saw Jewel Staite today. She was lovely, although the American accent threw me - for some reason the actors never seem to have accents on television, and then you meet them and they do! She inadvertantly let loose a leetle spoiler for Season Five while signing the picture I gave her, which her minder promptly shushed! I missed out on her talk session, though - by the time I went to get in, the room was full. I'm going again tomorrow - she has an "Atlantis-centric" talk session tomorrow, so I'll make sure I get in early for a seat.

Saw Jared Padalecki and was thinking of getting something signed by him (a gift for a FJ) but decided against - he'd finished signing for the day by the time I got around to it. And, after all the fuss and flutter and the photos and the signing, he was still smiling. I was impressed. And he is rather good-looking, although none of the guys around would admit it. I had two friends claim they were better looking than he! *laughs* I think I'd like to go to his session tomorrow afternoon, but I don't think I'd arrive in time, and it would probably be madly busy.

Kandyse McClure from BSG and Nichelle Nichols are two guests who were there today, but which I didn't see - by the time the crowds cleared enough for me to actually see the signing tables, they were gone.

Otherwise, I tried out and contemplated purchasing a Wacom tablet (ebay is going to be my friend on that front, I think, since I only want it for pfaffing around once in a while), bought two Buffy "Season 8" trade paperbacks, and the Marvel "1602" comic, which I finished reading earlier tonight. I love crackerrific AUs. Marvel has a predisposition towards them. And this one was written by Neil Gaiman, too! How could I possibly resist?
