There are several discussions going on at [livejournal.com profile] skieswideopen's journal regarding an Alternative Guide To SGA Fandom - a non-comprehensive one that fills in the sections that tend to get left out in the very McShep-oriented overall fandom.

The Alternative Guide To SGA Fandom - Discussion 1: DW | LJ
The Alternative Guide To SGA Fandom - Discussion 2: DW | LJ
The Alternative Guide To SGA Fandom - Discussion 3: DW | LJ

You might like to participate! (I'd like you to participate!)

I've already offered to help put together links and suchlike for meta about Teyla and John/Teyla, but I could always do with help and assistance, and the Alternative Guide could certainly do with more people to help put pages together. Minor characters! Female characters! Aiden Ford!

--

There's presently a discussion taking place regarding whether the Alternative Guide should include McShep or not.

My vote is 'no', simply because there are plenty of McShep-oriented guides out there by passionate McShep fans that will enable a newcomer to SGA to navigate whatever kink or area that they prefer. Most of them barely mention anything other than John, Rodney, and John/Rodney centric works, and their perception of the other characters, pairings, and works by fans not in the McShep-oriented part of fandom tends to be sketchy at best.

I'd like to see the Alternative Guide cover the sections of fandom that haven't already been covered and which will never be covered by the various 'Definitive Guides' that poke their heads up, or which get swamped by McShep simply because there is such a preponderance of McShep in SGA fandom.

I know there's not much active interest in the Stargate women anymore, but for the iconistas among us, the [livejournal.com profile] sgwomen_itest is voting on a new banner.

I'm going to do more promoting of this comm, simply because the number of submissions has been pretty down of late. They scraped for two weeks to get five banners submitted for them.

Over at [community profile] camelot_fleet on DW, I've signed up for the finish-a-thon through February and March: no hard deadlines, just encouragement to get some stuff finished instead of futzing around with it any longer.

My thread for voting on what you'd like to see me complete in the next two months.

You can vote as your LJ user via OpenId, or as an anon if that's easier.

Current options are:
- Merlin - Legends Of Camelot: If Thy Heart Fail Thee, Trust Not In Me (part III of The King Of Elfland's Daughter and The Dragon's Son)
- Merlin - Not Quite The Churl (sequel to 'Not Quite The Lady')
- SGA - The Astonishing Persistence Of Memory: Future Indefinite (part III of Past Time and Present Tense)
- SGA - One Of Their Own (superpower AU)

And several people have reminded me of my Black Jewels Merlin fic that, uh, got stuck at Morgana's story. Maybe this year?

Right. So. dinner with the Stargate guests for Armageddon.

food was delish, guests were delightful, night was faboo, I'd do it again! )

There was a second conversation with Torri, but that's going to have to wait for later. I've got to go help out at a booth for a bit.

I'm manning a booth, so I don't get to the talks, and I'm not much of a one for the talks anyway, so I can't tell you the goss.

I can tell you my interaction with the actors was very minor. I got one thing signed by Michael, and one thing signed by Torri, and I think I might get Michael to sign Daniel the lemming. Either on his tag or across his butt. Or possibly if I can find a piece of plastic that I can then loop-attach through his tag. Anyway, I've had Daniel the lemming for the better part of eight years and never got him signed. So, tomorrow is the day!

Michael was done with his signatures very fast. Ben was gone a little while later. But Torri's line was HUGE and stayed huge. Mostly because she talked to everyone for 2-3 minutes, and would happily get carried away. She'll be at the dinner, though, so I got my stuff signed and went.

Anyway, room, rest, wash, then dinner.

I know that [personal profile] astridv/[livejournal.com profile] astridv is excited about it (DW | LJ). But that's the only positive public endorsement I've seen.

So I'm looking for links: have you seen or noticed any other people who've posted publically about being interested/excited about the possibility of the SGA: Legacy books, either on LJ or DreamWidth?

Someone saying they're excited, interested, intrigued, thrilled by the prospect? Link me!

[livejournal.com profile] jo_graham has another meta about Legacy up at her journal.

This one's about the lack of reset button and what it meant for the writers of the series and where they've taken the story arcs. (Specifically, they mention Ronon, so the Ronon-fans should probably go over and take a gander at what's in store.)

I can't say how much it means to me that these writers are writing the story-from-here in the Legacy series: because I've watched TPTB dismiss the characters who weren't white and weren't male, coding them as insignificant, stupid, and unimportant; I've watched the majority of fandom do exactly the same thing, in some cases worse than anything TPTB cooked up.

And all of a sudden there are writers who'll be writing not!John, not!Rodney, not!Jack, and not!Daniel as though they've got hopes and plans and places to go, things to be, actions to do, stories to influence?

Large portions of my f-list and dwircle from SGA are people who struggled with the fact that TPTB and fandom didn't really give anyone who wasn't John or Rodney a fair go.

In the Legacy series, they do. And it's an and, not an or. Neither John nor Rodney are ignored, dismissed, or left with one or two lines but nothing to do. It's not "reverse racism" at all: it's inclusion and acceptance. They're still valued, they're just alongside Teyla and Ronon, Sam and Radek, Woolsey, Lorne, Cadman, Carson and a slew of other characters.

So, really, if you struggled with the show's exclusion of anyone who wasn't John or Rodney, these stories are going to blow your mind. Of course, if you love John and Rodney, they're going to blow your mind as well.

This is a repost of a fic I temporarily posted a week ago. (It was up for about three hours before I took it down again.) I didn't like the ending and rejigged it so I was more satisfied with it.

TITLE: Down The Wind, To Prey At Fortune
AUTHOR: Tielan
SUMMARY: He doesn't need a reminder that she wants him, but it's reassuring to have it.
RATING: NC-17
PAIRING: John/Teyla.
CATEGORY: Um... Character study through kink?
NOTES: My first square for [community profile] kink_bingo: Sex Toys (worn under clothing).

TITLE: The Good Guys
SUMMARY: They're the good guys. Don't get on their bad side.
CATEGORY: AU, team, crackerrific crossover
WORD COUNT: 5,714
RATING: PG-13
NOTES: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] sga_genficathon, which just went un-anon! I took some liberties with the prompt "Buyer beware" after [livejournal.com profile] arabel suggested: "biting off more than you can chew" as an approximation of the prompt. And then things just...uh...kinda got outta hand. (As they do with these characters.) Thank to [personal profile] ailelie, who was extremely helpful in beta! The quotations are from 'Murphy's Laws of War'. Interpret them as you will!

And yes, the poster is imitated from here. I tried putting Atlantis in the background, but it proved too much for my limited photoshopping skillz.

TITLE: Five Earth Things That Shocked Teyla
AUTHOR: Tielan
SUMMARY: Teyla understands how they think; that does not mean she agrees with them.
RATING: PG-13
SPOILERS: General Season Five spoilers.
AUTHOR'S NOTES: I started this a month or two ago when I first saw the prompt over at [profile] sg_five_prompts but it didn't get finished in time. (I almost never do - ideas come, the capability to write them goes.) So when [personal profile] fizzyblogic started running a Teyla commentfanworks meme, I pulled it out and dusted it off.
