I guess the people looking for Endgame fixits are moving further afield. I got nine kudos on the other side of infinity yesterday...

Cynical T: Unless it was a guest kudosing at every chapter.
Hopeful T: But then there would have been 26 kudos!
Cynical T: Maybe they were taking it slow.
Hopeful T: *stuffs cynical T in a bag and sews it shut* SHUSH YOU.

The sequel to the wisdom to know the difference is not going well. I'd hoped to be finished by now. Instead, I'm stuck on the damned intimacy scene.
“Will we have to worry about spillover from any of the falling empires?”

“Not according to Carol. We got a reputation in going after Thanos, so most people aren’t willing to try it.”

Steve grimaces. “The problem isn’t usually most people, the problem is the one or two who want to try themselves out against your reputation...”

“Well, most of us are still here, even if there aren’t so many of us in the game. anymore” Nat points out, leaning back in her chair and putting her feet up on the desk. “And there’s Carol.”

“Yes,” Steve echoes, “There’s Carol.”

It’s not that the guys don’t like Carol – Thor, in particular, thinks she’s great. But Steve and Rhodey are accustomed to Natasha’s more subtle, self-effacing style of competence, and Carol's in-your-face feminism straight out of the 90s is disconcerting.

Maria finds it disconcerting, too, but she also enjoys watching the guys squirm, just a little.

I'm mostly reading a spec today. I'm feeling antsy, and a little emotionally frazzled.

Rather disturbingly, nobody's commented on other side of infinity after I posted Part One. The kudos are still coming in, but I was expecting at least a little reaction from my regular readers and it's been *crickets chirp*.

Okay, so I did some rejigging of the way I'm posting the story which is probably going to play merry hell with my subscribers' inboxes. (Sorry.)

Each chapter is a scene change, and there are several scenes in a single story section. I'll be posting the story in sections at a time, though, so there'll be multiple chapters posted every few days.

The posting scenes as chapters is mostly because an entire segment is 12K easy and not everyone has time to read that all at once, but 2K a day might be doable, perhaps?

I've started posting the other side of infinity on AO3.

I posted a great whack of a part - some 14K of words - all at once, and am presently debating the wisdom of it. Maybe I should be posting by scene-breaks instead of part breaks.

Mind you there are another 6 parts to get through, all of them are easily over 5K, although I think that Part One is the longest. The other parts are with the betas, and apart from possibly a REWRITE of part 4...I think we're good to go. Maybe.

…okay, do I insert a joke about Thor and Valkyrie protecting the Earth from the scum of the universe in other side of infinity: Yes/No?

(Don’t have time to make a poll, I’m typing this up in a document, and then posting it from office.)

Holy shit, I think I have the epilogue sorted out. It was three interactions. Now it is…uh…legion. *looks at her notes* Crap.

Now I just have to write it.

And hope that my (newest) beta likes Parts Two, Three, Four, and Five as much as she liked Part One. *sigh* I know the prologue and Part One are strong, but the other parts? I wrote them in the last four months, very sketchily, and working a lot of things out along the way. They went from bare bones to merely skeletal to fleshed out REALLY FAST and I don't know if they had time to build 'muscle' along the way (if we're going to work the metaphor).

I really want this out before Endgame, although at the rate we’re going it may very well be the weekend before the damn thing comes out.

Six lines of a current WIP.

Hill! Get your ass moving; I was old when you were born and I'm still more lively!

With all due respect, sir, fuck off.

When that had been? Maybe half a year after the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. London, jetlag, she'd been on the move for nearly thirty-six hours – since California in fact – and Fury hit a nerve when he demanded she be bright eyed and bushy-tailed at 0600 hours. She'd responded with profanity and he'd just laughed.

Maybe things had changed before then. But that was the moment when she realised things were different.

Sometimes I think that dodging spoilers in this story is like trying to dodge raindrops.

I've written about 14K since yesterday morning. White hot writing searing across my brain in an attempt to get the story out as soon as possible, before it all deserts me.

Result? About 7K of final chapter and I think that's the first draft done. 67K

I think it needs some major rewriting, particularly at the start of the third act (Part Four), but...it's done. Except for the epilogue which cleans up a few final things.

I'm thinking about an epilogue's epilogue, too. Maybe.

My brain right now is absolute mush. I need to lie down and give it a rest. I don't even want to think about what I've written until...I don't know. Later in the week, maybe?

This morning, the Nick Fury muse hits me sideways with the scene I'm presently writing between him, Maria, Wanda, Jane and a Wakandan Dora Milaje. I wrote 400 words in about 20 minutes.

Of course this happens a dozen hours before I'm somehow retconned for character in Captain Marvel which I am seeing at 5pm today at the local Big Cinema Complex (they had the best times, in spite of the small Indy Cinema being half the price; if I go a second or third time, it'll definitely be there).

Also: MY BETA REALLY LIKES THE STORY. AND ASKED THE QUESTIONS I WAS GOING TO ANSWER IN THE SECTION I'M WRITING. Hopefully this doesn't mean it's obvious what's going to happen at the end of this chapter. Or what has to happen to get to the final showdown.

I just want a few days of uninterrupted writing time, dammit! I think I'm free on Saturday, anyway. (My schedule says I'm free on Saturday.)

I just want to sleep. I feel like I've been sleep deprived for weeks now. Must have gotten too accustomed to

Also, we seem to have locked someone out of their computer on their first day working here. And there's no-one else in yet, and I'm trying to work out how to unlock it...

I got back the beta for the first three parts of other side of infinity early this morning while I was still asleep and haven't looked at it. I'm always a little terrified of beta feedback, mostly because a beta some fifteen years ago basically trashed the story because I mischaracterised her favourite character. The criticism made me change the story and it was better for it, but I never forgot the way she tore me apart.

Otherwise, the other side of infinity has kind of stalled at Nick's 2nd POV.

Speaking of Nick, I wonder what time I could get a viewing of Captain Marvel this weekend. Or even if I can.

The arthritis salve that I swapped with a friend for 2 dozen eggs seems to work on the big toe. It's not nearly as bad this morning as I thought it was going to be after yesterday (hockey, then a crop swap that was mostly standing around, and then church and church dinner which was - again - mostly standing around, so that by the time I got home after church, I just wanted to sit down for a week). Guess that's going to become a regular application.

Lordy, some of these users are clueless. Lovely people, but clueless. (As my co-worker observed: "they're all jocks and beauty queens" and sadly I'm coming to discover that she's not wrong.)

Sleeeeeep.

As previously predicted, the mission Takes the Other Side of Infinity to just over 40K.

Should only be another 15K-20K to the end. *exhales*

Now I just need to not get tangled up in everything. Also, the lines of events need to be well laid out. And probably a few hanging sentences need completing.

--

It's been kind of quiet this morning. Not much happening, although I've picked up a couple of tickets - not many. And really easy ones. I did one manual upload (they really should automate that, I'm kind of surprised that they haven't). One of the issues here is that many of the users have a history and if you don't know the history then the request may not make sense. Oh, and there's a whole series of requests to unlock Purchase Orders/Invoices/Work Orders that have been locked. For some reason or another.

--

The cleanse is going pretty well. I had a slice of raisin toast yesterday (no butter) and the gluten seemed fine. However, there was also a morning tea for a couple of guys who'd worked for the company for 40+ years (one joined when he was 16) and so I figured I'd risk a piece of cake.

Within 30 minutes I had a headache and was feeling sleepy. So, uh, it could have been the chocolate, the sugar, the cream, or any additives that went into the cake. But it probably wasn't the gluten. Yay?

Today is back to a regular cleanse day, and tomorrow is…dairy I think. I shall have milk tea in the morning (still no coffee), and maybe take some cheese snacks to work. It would be nice to have a dairy dessert after dinner, but I don't know if I'll have the space.

That felt like a hell of a day. And I at least knew where the scene was going!

But apparently I wrote 7289 words, and fought and defeated 13 monsters. Not a bad day's work.

I also managed to watch I, Robot which is a terrible movie on one hand, and a highly enjoyable watch on the other. I'm now considering Bright. (Honestly, I'd consider Jack Reacher: Never Say Die if only I didn't suspect that Cobie Smulders ends up in bed with Tom Cruise, which: ick.)

Writing time will be considerably less in the coming week; everything's starting back up again - work, hockey, bible study...

Uh, I should probably dig out my paperwork for tomorrow, eh?

If I had a playlist that I wanted to give out at the same time as a story, what would be the best way to do it?

As in, seriously, my notes have: "Waking up - Louder Than Words", "Sam - Caderka fight: Forge - Infinity War" "Maria - do you remember: End of the Line - Cap 2". It gives me good mood for what I'm writing.

Would you listen to a playlist while reading the story?

If the story is less than 40K when I finish this battle scene, I'll be really surprised.
