I love Alli's longfics, especially the later ones. (And the shortfics aren't too bum either!) She always manages to fuck with your mind in her longer fics and it's always a thing of great beauty. This story is as much a character study of John-in-the-gaps as it is a look at the Ancients and their modus operandi, although the initial premise is heartbreaking when you think about the kind of man John Sheppard is and what's been done/happening to him.
Besides, Carson/Laura-in-the-background squee. (Okay, so I squeed.) You know you want it!
