Dear Yulegoat,
I dithered a lot about signing up or not signing up - I've got quite a few things due this year. But I think I can do this, and I'm definitely going to enjoy myself.
Anyway, I could have picked fandoms like Diane Duane's Young Wizards (Kit/Nita! OH SO CANON!) or Tanya Huff's Smoke series. (Tony/Lee! CANON!) But I figured I'd go the super-dooper rare instead!
Forthwith, find my selections and I hope they don't scare you off!
Tokyo Crazy Paradise: Kozuki Tsukasa/Shirogami Ryuji
They're fourteen at the end of the book, right? So, I'd like to see the progression through the rest of their adolescent years and into adulthood. How does Tsukasa deal with her decision to stick by Ryuji and what it means as the brought-up daughter of a couple of cops? What about her brother's desire/decision to go into the police force and the conflicts that might come up there? I don't believe in the primacy of the biological mother in all things, so I really hope you won't dismiss Tsukasa's (adopted) parents and everything they taught her, or her care for her family and how close they are.
On the other side of things, how does Ryuji deal with the expectations of his colleagues regarding Wakasa's daughter? With the interest of other males and Tsukasa's careful indifference to him? I'd like to see the question of their sexual interaction addressed, too: Ryuji is experienced while Tsukasa isn't and she isn't inclined to be physically intimate with Ryuji until she's ready - how do they bridge that gap? Please be careful with the matter of Ryuji's pushing Tsukasa sexually, too - coaxing vs coercion.
eta: While I like the overall story and the Tsukasa/Ryuji relationship, I'm not so fond of some of the more...embarrassing parts of the manga. Humiliation is a squick of mine, and I tended to skip the bits where Tsukasa did stupid stuff. I have no idea about the whole 'changing into animals' bit, and I don't usually read manga, so I don't know if this is customary for the genre. But I like the bugwhip and the whole Tsukasa is really really good at fighting, but really really clueless about guys. (Actually, I think that might be a character kink of mine now I think about it.)
Kris Longknife: Kris/Jack/Abby/Penny
Once again, the Longknife name lands Kris in the midst of a crisis - with nothing but a troop of marines, her trusty crew, and one computer that's developing far more 'tude than Kris likes! A Kris/Jack dynamic would be very cool but isn't necessary beyond their usual functional-yet-affectionate relationship. And Mama Abby dispensing advice in her usual blunt way would be awesome - bonus points if Penny dryly counters or punctuates Abby's suggestions as they come! Naturally, Kris should get out of any situations she's in herself - no damsels, please!
eta: I'm good with the usual Kris POV, although some Jack POV would be great, too! There's a part of me that wouldn't mind a timeline of Jack coming to the realisation that he loves Kris, but I'd really rather the action-adventure with the feelings/emotions/friendship/caring all woven into the storyline. (Relationships! Not just romantic ones, but friendships and cuteness and adorability and all!)
Chinese Mythology: Xi Wang Mu | Queen Mother of the West
The goddess was beautiful, except for the fact tthat tiger teeth protruded from her mouth, and her hands ended in tiger claws, and her lower body reflected the water origin of all goddesses by ending in something like a dragon's tail, huge and scaly and shining and coiling. Her eyes had no knowledge of time, and no knowledge of weakness, and no knowledge of pity, and I thought I might almost be close to understanding the famous line by the great poet Master Li had mentioned, Li Ho: "If Heaven had feelings, Heaven too would grow old." ~ Number Ten Ox ~
eta: This is a complicated one, actually. I just love the above quotation: the concept of deity - so far beyond human comprehension, and perhaps beyond the comprehending of humans, too? But if you can't do the goddess herself, I'd like a story about human woman being pursued by a supernatural man - like, say, the Herd Boy and the Weaver Goddess, except the other way around. Or a story like that of Lady Yen, only instead of the woman being a spirit who falls in love with a man, it's the guy who's supernatural and the woman is just an ordinary human woman. A happy ending isn't necessary, but it would be nice! (I'm beginning to think the Chinese mythologies don't believe in happy endings - honestly, the best story ending is the Herd Boy and the Weaver Goddess...and they only get to be together once every seven years!)
Dragon Prince/Dragon Star series: Pol/Sionell
Ideally, I'd love a Pol/Sionell story after Skybowl - how they get together under the eyes of the Princedoms and their rapidly-maturing children. If you only know the first trilogy, then I'd like an AU where Pol fall in love with Sionell while Tallain is courting her, putting her in the invidious position of making a choice between two men. (And, actually, I'm good with either Pol/Sionell or Tallain/Sionell, so take it either way!) If you don't like Pol/Sionell, then something about an argument they have about a matter of politics or state - either once he's High Prince and she's Regent of Cunaxa, or while he's still Prince of Princemarch and she's Tallain's wife - which they concede or accept by the end of the fic.
eta: I always believed that Sionell is the wife Pol was meant to have, and that Rawn was setting everything up for them to get together at the end and then...they didn't! Which was a nice subversion of the usual trope, but so frustrating! I have a secret yen for Jahnavi/Jihan, too, once they've grown up - I know that the text leans towards a Jihan/Meig interpretation, but I always thought that Jahnavi would be the kind of anchor that Jihan needed to really soar - his father's steadiness to anchor the impetuousness she inherited from Pol. Yes, this is me, next-gen-shipping for Dragon Prince!
General notes on my preferences:
Female characters as the centre of the narrative = A+++
Female characters who are given the power to change the situation and make things happen = A+++
Action-adventure, mixed with interpersonal relationships (friendship and romantic) = A+++
The dramatic tension that comes of being intelligent, strong-willed people with minds of their own who happen to disagree but can do so respectfully = A+++
It'd probably be wise to take care when dealing with the Tokyo Crazy Paradise and Chinese mythology requests - particularly regarding exoticism and attitudes of superiority towards eastern mythologies and culture.
Otherwise, roam free and wild, dear Yulegoat!

Okay, you know what I really really want for Christmas this year?
A Star Wars story. An EPIC Star Wars AU where the Emperor succeeds in turning Luke to the Dark Side, and Leia has to save both him and the galaxy.
I tried to write this when I was eleven. I have never heard of a fanfic that does this. And I wants it, preciouss!
