Constants

She knows who enters her room long before he sits on the edge of the bed. Only a handful of people may enter this room in the twilight hours, and only one would not announce himself.

"Now?" Is all she manages. Words are an effort after the day that has been. She has no energy for anything he might desire of her at this moment.

They went to meet the Asurans, only to find a new Atlantis. They explored that city, only to discover it created by machines. They escaped from the Asurans only to watch Elizabeth drift in a coma from which Carson said there was no hope of revival - no hope until John chose to ignore the rules and break into the segregation cell.

It has been a long day and she has no passion in her - only the slow drag of weariness, drawing to slumber.

He shucks off his boots. "No," he murmurs over the rustle of his jacket falling to the floor. "You can have a headache if you want."

Teyla can hear the smile in his voice - and the thread of self-mocking uncertainty. It twitches a corner of her mouth and pains a corner of her heart. In response, she makes room for him as he slips beneath the covers, shifting into an unwarmed section of the too-small bed. At least his feet are not cold, although the nose he presses into her shoulder is.

"Elizabeth is well?" She asks as they shift, finding resting places for hipbones and thighs, arms and hands.

There's a pause before John answers, as he slides his arm under her neck and spoons up against her back. "She's a survivor," he mumbles into her hair. "We all are."

Teyla does not ask why he is here. He has known few constant things in his life - Atlantis and the people within it being one of them - and today, it was threatened once more. This is John's way of reassuring himself that some things are still here for him, still constant.

And in this, Teyla can give him what he desires.

I love how she sounds so weary, yet so willing to do what she can for John. How he came into her room without needing to introduce himself and she understood what he needed was just so beautiful. Love it. ^^

I love how even in the midst of dire times, John can still joke about it..and yet find solace in Teyla....see this is why these two need each other in the show...they would be so much like this indeed....thanks Tie..beautiful as always...

My favorite line about him being the "only one [who] would not announce himself."

It's amazing how you're able to convey so many insights with just one phrase.

I love this, esp. the last part about his simply being near her at that time was John's way of reassuring himself that some things in his life was still constand and with that she could give him what he desired.

Beautiful insight into this couple and something that would be wonderful to see on the show.
