The Other Side Of Infinity is one epilogue shy of complete. I'll post that on Friday or the weekend. eta: I decided I couldn't be arsed waiting to put it up. Just post it, all done.

And I feel like right now I need a bit of 'flop' space for my brain to recover from writing and rewriting and stressing and ARGH. It won't get much time, for that, though. I bought my ticket for Endgame, next Wednesday 5:20pm. Expect copious ranting around 9pm AEST.

Not going to look at the release. Not going to check out spoilers. On the other hand if the movie is actually about how Maria gets to save the world with all the other Snaptured people...

*crickets chirp*

Yeah, I didn't think so.

Frankly, I just want to make it out of this fandom alive.

I received one fic, and wrote three:

My gift was:
accustom the eye to calmness by [archiveofourown.org profile] syllic: It's Pacific Rim: Stacker, Mako, and their first meeting from Stacker's POV rather than Mako's.

Go read it, it's sweet, simple, and uncomplicated. Sometimes you just want that.

My assignment was for [profile] crossing_hades | [archiveofourown.org profile] Persephones_Keeper (we seem to be meeting a lot in ficathons; can't imagine why...)

I ended up writing two stories, because I started writing one and posted it, but decided I didn't like it, so I wrote another one. Then I ended up rewriting the original one to be better, and now I'm pretty happy with both.
title: The Older Brother
summary: A parent should never have favourites.
relationships: Nick Fury & Maria Hill, Nick Fury & Natasha Romanoff, Nick FUry & Peggy Carter
characters: Nick Fury, Peggy Carter, Maria Hill, Natasha Romanoff
warnings: None
ratings: PG-13
notes: A retelling of The Prodigal Son, from a different angle. Or: most people don't care about the ones who do the duty; but good parents don't have favourites - just children they love in different ways, for different reasons. I'm not sure fandom actually gets this.

title: Fall In, Fallout
summary: "Sometimes it’s not being the only brother that makes the difference. Sometimes it's the company you fall in with. Caterpillars and all."
relationships: Nick Fury & Gabe Jones, Gabe Jones & Dum Dum Dugan
characters: Nick Fury, Gabe Jones, Dum Dum Dugan
warnings: Use of a time-period accurate slur.
ratings: PG-13
notes: I don't generally read Nick-focused fic, so I don't know how most people look at his background/upbringing. However, given SLJ's age, Nick would have been among the first generation post-Civil Rights, which I thought was worth addressing - and glimpsing, as a sideline, how Gabe Jones got through the 40s and 50s as a black American hero, and member of the Howling Commandos.

And a pinch-hit.
title: Frayed Edges
summary: It’s one thing to know that Steve would go to the wall for Bucky Barnes – hell, isn't that what Sam’s been doing hanging around with Steve for the last two years? It’s another to believe he’d do the same for Sam.
relationships: Sam Wilson & Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson & Bucky Barnes, Sam Wilson & Maria Hill
characters: Sam Wilson, Steve Rogers, Maria Hill, Bucky Barnes, various other Avengers
warnings: None
ratings: PG-13
notes: Like the rest of fandom, I tend to write Sam in as the helper and counsellor character, and I wanted to avoid that in this fic - particularly in light of several Tumblr posts pointing out how damaging it is to write 'perfect' black people, there to help the 'damaged' white people (where the stories naturally focus on the damaged whites and how they reach resolution).

I don't think it's quite what the recipient wanted - she actually requested Steve/Bucky/Sam and c/p'd her Steve/Bucky prompts from Smut Swap, just asking to insert Sam at the top. *shrug* This was what I had in me, and I'm kind of glad to have written it.

Now, I'm frantically trying to finish [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang: 7241/8000 (the minimum), to be handed in by tonight... And then I have to hope I get someone to do art who actually likes Maria, which I suspect is going to be an exercise in futility...

TITLE: The Meeting Of Your Sparks
SUMMARY: It had been a while since he felt a warmth like this in his belly, but he remembered how it felt to be attracted to someone in his gut – that pull of interest that was one part sexual, one part personality, all parts desire.
CATEGORY: Mako/Raleigh, Fluff, AU, a little bit of angst
RATING: G
WARNINGS: None
NOTES: Written as the opening salvo of a fic war between myself and [personal profile] quigonejinn for Pacific Rim fic. Her follow-up was "The One Where..." which means the ball's back in my court. So do I work off 'sparring' or do I go further off the AU track? Or both?

TITLE: Feels Like Home To Me
SUMMARY: In the middle of the night she crawls into his bed, and not a word is said.
CATEGORY: Steve/Maria, fluff, very short
RATING: G
WARNINGS: None
NOTES: Another in the "Meeting Halfway" Steve/Maria series. Not compliant with anything after The Avengers.

TITLE: Pretty Cunning
SUMMARY: Nick may be a suspicious bastard, but he's not an unforgiving one.
CATEGORY: Nick Fury & Maria Hill, familial relationship, post-CA2
RATING: G
WARNINGS: None
NOTES: For Father's Day. And because I felt I had to say something about AoS and the Director of SHIELD situation.

[personal profile] ladyscribe? I think you're going to have to tell me what theme I should pick for the next Steve/Maria in our fic war. I'm sorry, I'm just all over the shop right now.

And, of course, right when I'm busiest, the old profic bunnies come a-hopping. I kicked a male character out to make space for another female character, and apart from now allowing the 5-book series to actually pass Bechdel, it also changes the dynamics between the quintet a little - which isn't a bad thing, I think. The danger was always going to be that Renee was left out in the cold as 'the girl', but with Tiana now part of the five, there's less chance of that.

Now I just have to stop my brain from trying to simultaneously write the adult urban fantasy novel series that feature them after they've grown up...

TITLE: Hidden In Plain Sight
SUMMARY: Nobody notices a woman who walks one step behind a man.
CHARACTERS: Nick Fury, Maria Hill
RATING: G
WARNINGS: None
NOTES: Missing Scenes from CapA:TWS. I just realised I didn't post this to my journal when I first wrote it. Which is why people haven't been seeing it...

One 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' related, one general MCU. Both on AO3.

MCU
Title: The Right Hand Knows Not
Summary: "S.H.I.E.L.D isn’t about heroes saving ordinary people, Gibson – or it shouldn’t be. It’s about protecting Earth from anything and anyone who would attack it – and sometimes from ourselves."
Rating: PG-13
Characters/Pairing: Maria & Steve, with cameos from Natasha, Barton, Fury, and assorted others.
Notes: ABANDONED WORK - UNFINISHED AND DISCONTINUED. Basically, this was the be the sequel to 'Give A Girl A Moment' but CA:TWS (and IM3) kind of threw all the plotbunnies out of whack. It's not even going to reach the bit where Maria thwarts an assassination attempt against Fury, unfortch. I was kind of looking forward to writing that sequence. Oh well. The bunnies snooze; the bunnies lose.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Title: Hidden In Plain Sight
Summary: Nobody notices a woman who walks one step behind a man.
Rating: G
Characters/Pairing: Maria Hill & Nick Fury
Notes: SPOILERS for CA:TWS. Missing scene and character thoughts from the movie. And this is just the first of many plotbunnies that have arisen from seeing it...

This snippet does have a home. I just haven't written the rest of it yet.

This is kind of what happens when a scene takes over your brain.

TITLE: Marching To The Beat Of A Tony Stark Drum (at AO3)
SUMMARY: The problem of having been hacked by Tony Stark is that your systems are never quite the same again.
CHARACTERS: Maria Hill, Nick Fury
CATEGORY: Humour
RATING: G
NOTES: for the [livejournal.com profile] avengers100 prompt #2 – "What if...?" I was hoping the original it would be the first in a kind of 'Stark's List' (or '101 Things Tony Stark Is No Longer Allowed To Do On The Helicarrier') but I find myself struggling to hit ten, let alone 101!

FANDOM: Avengers
TITLE: Assembly, Care, & Feeding of a Queen's Court
RATING: R
CHARACTERS: Maria, Nick, Natasha, Clint, Phil, Jane, Rhodey, Tony, Pepper, Thor, Bruce, Darcy, Steve.
WORD COUNT: 36,180
WARNINGS: (highlight to see) There are two scenes involving unwanted sexual advances, both of which are averted.
DISCLAIMER: Not mine, making no money, I'm just having fun with them.
NOTES: Holy cow, it's done! Three months from inception to completion, and it's been a mad ride all the way. *hugs* I hope you enjoy it!

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: I have far too many people to thank for working with me on this and if I don't recall you, I'm so very sorry!

Firstly, to [livejournal.com profile] booklover81, [livejournal.com profile] mad_maudlin, [livejournal.com profile] grav_ity, [livejournal.com profile] mari4212, and [livejournal.com profile] wojelah who encouraged me when the idea of a Black Jewels fusion with Avengers first popped into my head. Then to the people who beta'd midway through the story – specifically [livejournal.com profile] allisnow, [livejournal.com profile] lar_laughs, and [livejournal.com profile] spoke. Then to all the people who encouraged me to keep writing. And then [livejournal.com profile] lizbet0 did an amazing job of going over the story with a fine-toothed comb and poking the sticky bits of it into shape so they were a little less oozy.

I have no words to adequately describe my joy in the artwork [livejournal.com profile] neptune47 and [livejournal.com profile] hiddencait made for this story - thanks so much to both of you!

Finally, I hope you enjoy the story, and there may be a sequel if I can find the time and energy to write it. Thank you!

The Hydra came out of nowhere. They moved through the Territory of SHIELD, killing the Queens of the Blood - the heart of the land - and destroying their courts. For twenty-five years, the land has lain locked in a cold, dark winter, waiting for a Queen to rise up and bring them into day. But when Warlord Prince Nick Fury answers the call of a trusted friend, he discovers a young Queen living alone in the forest, spirited and unbroken, surviving by her wits.

Maria Hill was brought up in a Queen's court, and learned the laws and protocols of the Blood at an early age. But she's been living solitary for the last three years and she likes it - she doesn't want a court, or to rule. She may not have a choice.

The Hydra are making their final push across the land, and if Maria cannot draw a strong court around her to fight them, none of them may survive the onslaught.
