three thankyous to Teyla-fans

[livejournal.com profile] ladyjax for being the first person I met who loved and focused on Teyla as much as I did.

[livejournal.com profile] lyssie for always being one of the first people to sign up for anything Teyla-focused I run, although she plays in entirely different circles.

[livejournal.com profile] ileliberte for encouraging me to do evil and loving Teyla from the slash-side of fandom.

Dangit. I just signed up to write a woodland fairy AU for the Team AU Ficathon.

I'd blame you, but I know I just lack willpower.

(I figured I needed to join the comm in order to eventually post, right? Now I'm wondering if maybe I was supposed to just watch the comm instead of submitting a request to join? *bleary* Erm. Well. They'll lay the smack down if I did it wrong.)

Yeah, I figured. And they accepted the request to join, so, it looks like all is well.

Dude, now I want to think about fairies! But I have to write this other story due at the end of this month first. *clutches head*

If two characters of color are shown in a knock-out, drag-down brawl while the other (white) characters are standing around, cheering and betting on the outcome. . .

Wow, actually know this scene that occurred in a very recent episode of my favorite show. I totally didn't see it that way, but immediately thought of that scene when I read the article. :/ Hmm. . .

All I can say is that it didn't come across like that to me. I really don't like to pull out my "person of color" card, but, well, I am. But that's not what informs the way I live. So, like I said, once they scene was describes, I knew exactly what they were talking about but I mean, come on. Though I recognize that there are racial stereotypes propogated with characters of color in sci-fi. . . Hmm. . .I don't want to say that some people are overly sensitive. . .

I glanced at some of the comment on the link you referenced. I'm just baffled by the fact that people think because someone like "Jason Momoa isn't black, he's Hawaiian", that makes it ok. I'm pretty sure the person who called him black used the term to mean someone obviously not white. In an interview Jason even said, "I'm not white at all." Even though we know that his mother is white, he's going to always be seen for his "other side" and he recognized that.

I don't know where I'm going with this really. There was a point somewhere in there that got lost on a tangent. *shrug* Personally, I wish the fight had been longer. I think a great deal was edited out for the sake of time. The scene was there to prove a point to the fans. I didn't realize how many people were comparing Ronon to Teal'c to the point that they had to have an episode dedicated to it. LOL. I mean, really, the only thing I see they have in common is that they're both aliens working for SGC, but their personalities are totally different.
