Is there a single scene in Season Five of SGA after the first episode that suggests that anyone other than Ronon feels friendship or affection or care for Teyla?

TITLE: All The King's Men
SUMMARY: Sanity is a fine line between the scars of the past and the belief in a hopeful future. But after a long captivity, John may no longer be capable of the balancing act.
CATEGORY: gen, hurt/comfort, team
RATING: PG-13
DISCLAIMER: Not mine, making no money, please don't sue.
WARNINGS: a lot of Very Bad Things are implied, but none are described in detail
NOTES: Written for [livejournal.com profile] kristen999 in the [livejournal.com profile] sheppard_hc Secret Santa 2008. ~11,000 words and a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to get the damn thing out! Definitely a fascinating prompt to write for, but not an easy one by a long shot.

So much thanks to my alphas and betas: [livejournal.com profile] live_brave, [livejournal.com profile] mahoni, and [livejournal.com profile] aurora_novarum, who were helpful and encouraging and brilliant. I could never have finished this without you!

I got ficlets in my stocking over at [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking! Nine of them from various people, most from SGA, with one SG1, and some crossovers. :D

Thank you so much to the people who wrote for me! I would have loved to write for you, but...I only managed two ficlets and they went to some people who I knew probably wouldn't get so many fics.

*hugs*

Time Rushes By - Part 1, Part 2 by [livejournal.com profile] marag
Hee! John and Teyla trying to find time in the City That Never Sleeps And When It Does, There's A Crisis.

SGA/Terminator:SCC crossover by [livejournal.com profile] amaresu
Rodney meets Sarah Connor, pre-Rising.

A heartbreaking, bittersweet character study of Teyla.

Sam, Vala, and a phallic symbol of fertility... by [livejournal.com profile] ryf
Because Sam and Vala are always entertaining together...

Oceans by [livejournal.com profile] yappichick
Lovely early-SGA interaction between Teyla and John over the ocean.

Faithful - Part 1, Part 2 by [livejournal.com profile] chyti
Okay, I instinctively go OMG, because this is a future-fic to my Shermer High AU stories. And both sweet and terrible all at once.

Sam Carter, Adrenaline Junkie by [livejournal.com profile] featherjean
How Sam Carter gets her aggro out.

Ladies' Night - Part 1, Part 2 by [livejournal.com profile] infinimato
Crossover FTW!

Another Man's Heart by [livejournal.com profile] purple_cube
Heartbreaking little piece about Teyla in an AU world...

I also wrote two little ficlets, one for [livejournal.com profile] azure_horizon and one for [livejournal.com profile] yappichick. I'd have written more, but the muse has been slightly absent.

Learning Contentment in [livejournal.com profile] azure_horizon's stocking.

All The Time On Earth in [livejournal.com profile] yappichick's stocking.

ps. They didn't get much fic otherwise, so pls go and write them ficlets? For me? *bats lashes*

TITLE: Of Colonels and Cattle
SUMMARY: "Wait, you're telling me that we're here to negotiate Colonel Sheppard's stud fees?"
RATING: PG-13
CHARACTERS: team, Alicia Vega, Amelia Banks, 2 OCs.
CATEGORY: Humour, team.
RECIPIENT: Written for [livejournal.com profile] tanaquisga in the [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa challenge: she wanted gen, team, diplomatics, alliances, witty/snarky dialogue, or a story that explored the charcter back-stories.
NOTES: Oh, how I struggled with this. And struggled. And then struggled some more. My problem wasn't the request per se, so much as that I wasn't quite in the right space to write the request she wanted. I was really, really hoping to get a John/Teyla themed request, but I think a grand total of three people optioned John/Teyla, and they were handed to others.

I'm really glad that [livejournal.com profile] mad_maudlin was handed [livejournal.com profile] vipersweb's request, though, because without it, we'd never have gotten "Heternomativity", which is mensa AU, fantastically written, and utterly hilarious, even if I find it slightly OOC, even as it manages to stay IC. (No, I know that sentence doesn't make sense. I can't explain it. It's both right and wrong at the same time and...oh, heck. I'm just going to stop here and say that you should spare an hour and read it, because it's long, it's well-written, it's freaking AWESOME, and it's John/Teyla. And don't tell me you don't like John/Teyla, because this story, you will!)

For those who love team and John and Rodney getting it about Pegasus, I point you to "The Truth About Alliances" by [livejournal.com profile] vipersweb. If you love Pegasus and all it's wild, wild array of possibility and character and culture, plus teamyness, and John/Teyla that works within their canon characterisation and within the storylines of S5, you'll like this one. Go and read!

(Yes, that was just a massive rec at the tail end of my fic post.)

*coughs* Ultimately, the story I wrote this year wasn't quite as good as I was hoping it would be, but that often happens - more often than not, lately. Hoever, quite a few new people (ie. not people who usually comment on my work) commented on this story, so I reached a new audience, which is always a yay! experience.

TITLE: Widow's Pique - Chapter 1
SUMMARY:
CATEGORY: AU, John/Teyla, team, crackerrific, romance, action-adventure, drama... This one has it all, folks!
RATING: PG-13
DISCLAIMER: The realm of the Blood is not mine, it's Anne Bishop's. I shouldn't have to tell you that the Atlantis characters aren't mine, either.
NOTES: For the 2008 Amnesty over at [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic, to the tune of the 'Harlequin' challenge. Sequel to To Serve A Queen and, yes, I will be finishing it in 2009. This part's been finished for over ten days, now, but I was keeping it for New Year's Eve/New Year's Day and the Fic-Mas challenge. Sadly, with the Fic-Mas Challenge gone out the window, this is all there'll be until I get this other fic within hailing distance of the end. Thanks for bearing with me!

On another note, I think the In The Game folks may have to give that story up for dead - I know how it's supposed to end, but I can't actually make it finish, and I never get more than 500 words in before I have to quit again.

Stargate Fan Awards - the nomination period ends as of the 31st December 2008!

This nomination is easy, at least. You just have to pick the story, the author chooses what area it should go in.

--

The Isis Awards are voting until the 17th January, 2009!

Note: while the Isis Awards are about less popular pairings, whether fanon or canon, they're also about the interactions between characters that wouldn't usually get much of a look-in. It's not always about the romance or the relationship, but about the interaction and friendship. I always nominate both ship and gen stories for my favourite interactions, and I expect others do the same.

We're starting with crack, and we're probably going to finish with crack. And there'll definitely be crack in between!

Merry Christmas!

Title: These Wings, Taken
Summary: John would fight them, and go down fighting if he had to. Disobedience, rebellion, sabotage - anything.
Category: angst, whump
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: If they were mine, I'd have done way more with Teyla and Ronon in the show.
Notes: I can't remember where this idea came from originally, but I've been writing it the last few days. I vaguely remember someone drawing a pic of John bare to the waist, with the tattoos on his back.

John rested his head against the bars of his cell and breathed shallowly of the scents of dry dust, unwashed men, and despair.

I was hoping to get through Christmas and New Year without that awful sick feeling in my stomach that another SGA episode had aired.

And, really, there's only the awful sick feeling in my stomach that another SGA episode has aired, because all I see now is Whitey McWhiteness: Teyla and Ronon no longer meaningful in episodes or in storylines, Keller - a.k.a. "The New White Girl" - so prominently displayed, and any sense of the awesomeness and potential of the Pegasus galaxy dumbed down, eliminated, or made out to be nothing more than an inferior copy of Earth.

disturbing on levels that I can't fathom )

*suddenly laughs*

Years ago, back in 2nd or 3rd Season of SGA, someone commented that SGA was like a boyfriend whom you knew was bad for you and whom you knew you should dump, and whom your friends told you you should dump, and whom your family told you was a loser and a no-hoper, but you just couldn't let go of the belief that one day, he'd get his act together and change.

I wonder if she got out before The Crash.

Incidentally, I've been taking hints that people are ignoring this LJ for the negativity on SGA because they don't want their squee harshed. In which case, feel free to consider this a defriending amnesty. I'm sorry that it's all we had in common, but that's the way that fandom goes - as I've been discovering these last few months. It was a good journey while we were companions with a common interest, now that we're not, it's probably best that we part ways. Cheers, and no hard feelings.

I got a John/Teyla fic for the [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa challenge! And it's well-written and team-y and detailed but it's also delicately John/Teyla and this makes me happy.

HAPPY.

The Truth About Alliances

Teamfic, with John/Teyla. It's politics and not action-based, and it's awesome. (I might have gotten a little effusive in the comments.) There's politics and alliances and explanations for how Atlantis has behaved, and why things are so difficult for them in Pegasus. It's all layered in the wonderfully complex nature of interaction and alliance and people and culture and gives reasons and rationalities for a lot of things that have always jarred me about the nature of the Atlantis expedition in Pegasus.

And, best of all, the John/Teyla is subtle and in the background, delicate and nuanced but still very much there amidst the team dynamics.

I was prepared to go to bed depressed. Now I don't have to!

Because I'm bored and have writing to do, but am uninspired and discouraged, and Teyla doesn't ever seem to get any love or picspam that I ever see, so I might as well provide some.

The best part of today was watching the first few minutes of Knight Rider 1.02 (or was it 1.03?) at my monthly sci-fi club and predicting what would happen. That's one show that I've gotta watch - and watch with other people, just for the joy of poking fun at it.

I also saw Terminator: SCC 2.03 today and have decided I should watch the rest of it. Although some of the characterisations bug me Read more... )

We also watched Dr. Who: Resurrection of the Daleks, sort of - vintage Who. Because there were apparently several episodes dedicated to this storyline and we saw episode #1 and #3, and it definitely didn't finish at #3.

I'm kind of enjoying The Middleman, although it's a slightly odd show. Traditional British sci-fi style in an American setting, which actually works for me. I don't imagine it'll ever be an old man River particularly popular in America, but it's funny enough.

Does anyone know when Eureka comes back on in the US?

In spite of my continuing and growing dissatisfaction with SGA, I have enjoyed other shows, although none have grabbed me. Mostly, I think, I need to find a place to fit into the fandoms, although it would probably help if any of the characters really spoke to me. I like the physically kickass girls who aren't emotionally disconnected from the people around them. Not exactly a common complaint in science fiction.

Anyway, the club has been good for me this year, brought me into the realm of people that I wouldn't have otherwise met. And at $10 a month, it's way cheaper than paying $3000 for a round-the-world ticket every time I want to catch up with people who can talk sci-fi.

And [livejournal.com profile] saeva? You were right. Sanctuary 1.04 was better.

Here @ [livejournal.com profile] winter_elf's LJ .

She got annoyed by the John/Teyla questions - apparently there were many of them (probably not as many as she thought - that which annoys always seems disproporitionaltely greater than it truly is). I'd probably have gotten annoyed too - but I'd have understood why they were asking.

I can't say I wouldn't have asked, either - although my question would have been 'why?'

Just looking at these pics, I'm reminded once again of the fact that Rachel is beautiful and sweet and lively, and none of this was allowed to show in Teyla, or written into her character, or permitted rein. And while I love Rachel for being sweet and very patient with her fans, I kinda wish she'd had a bit more inclination to smack TPTB upside the head for ignoring her perfectly good character in favour of newbies and guest characters and everyone but her.

If you can work out all those acronyms without looking them up - good on you!

I skipped Round #2 - too much on, not enough time.

But I did start the story:
The first thing Airman Amanda Wilcox ever saw coming through the Stargate was Dr. McKay’s rear end. It was hanging over the shoulder of a man who, in Mandy’s estimation, belonged on a wall calendar, preferably naked or so close as to make no difference.

A moment later, the hunk and his sack of potatoes were joined by two people whose conjoined limping progress into the Gateroom suggested they’d encountered something of the big and brutal variety and come off second-best.

Round #3 just went in.

In a day or so when the stories come out, I'm going to ask you to go in and vote. There aren't so many stories in this round - another two off the list - and this one, I can guarantee will not be full of "Rodney gets hurt and John hovers over him." Do you know why? Because the rules of this round state that the only characters who may appear in the story are Teyla, Lorne, Zelenka, Woolsey, Chuck, or Sam.

I admit: I saw the challenge and LOL'd.
